Multi-day expeditions

The Vessel

A private base on the water

Arctic Eagle is a 48-foot sailing catamaran built for private, multi-day journeys through the fjords of Northern Norway. She is at her best as a floating base — a warm, comfortable home on the water from which to snorkel with orcas and humpback whales, explore quiet anchorages and watch the Arctic change around you. Four double cabins, each with its own toilet and shower, accommodate up to six guests plus crew. The saloon offers a 360-degree view of the landscape, a heated interior keeps everyone comfortable between time on deck, and a fully equipped kitchen lets the crew cook proper meals from local ingredients throughout the journey. Her agility matters for wildlife. Orcas and humpback whales follow the herring into the fjords each winter, and their movements change from day to day. Arctic Eagle is manoeuvrable enough to follow the whales' lead — adjusting the route, the anchorage and the timing around the conditions and the latest reports from other vessels. Life aboard is unhurried and shared. The crew takes care of the boat, the route, the food and the safety, and guests are welcome to take part — helping with lines, keeping watch, or simply being on the water. Days are spent on the fjords; evenings are spent at anchor, warm and well fed, with the light and silence of the Arctic around you. Snorkeling with orcas and humpback whales is one of the great wildlife encounters the Norwegian fjords make possible. The whales are wild, and we never guarantee what they will do — we read the water, respond to their behaviour, and keep our time with them calm and respectful. Safety is led by the captain and dive safety officer, who monitor the whales throughout each encounter and adapt in real time.

The Crew

Local knowledge and a genuine welcome

Our crew are local mariners with all the certificates required to run a passenger vessel in Northern Norway. They have spent their working lives on these waters and know the fjords, the weather and the seasonal movement of the whales — reading the conditions day by day and adjusting the route to keep the journey safe and rewarding. They are also genuinely passionate about food, serving meals made from local ingredients and adapting the menu to what is best at the time of year. Around the clock, the crew works to make the journey memorable, and keeps a good, easy atmosphere on board — the part of living aboard that matters most to us.

The Experience

Snorkeling with orcas and humpback whales

Each winter, orcas and humpback whales follow the herring into the fjords of Northern Norway. The clear waters and the number of animals make this one of the best places in the world to enter the water with killer whales. Our snorkeling guides run a thorough safety briefing before each trip — equipment, technique and protocols — and are trained in first aid and emergency response. Several hold a background in marine biology, and share insight into the whales, their behaviour and the wider ecosystem of the fjords. They fit and check every guest's equipment, coach buoyancy and breathing, and approach the whales calmly and on their terms to keep disturbance to a minimum. Whether you are a seasoned snorkeler or entering the water for the first time, the guidance is shaped to your level. The whales are wild and their presence is never guaranteed, but the crew reads the water and the latest reports to give you the best chance of a calm, close encounter.

Safety

Wild animals, managed with care

Orcas and humpback whales are wild animals, and being in the water alongside them carries an inherent element of risk, as any encounter with wildlife does. We take every precaution to keep the expedition as safe as possible. The captain and dive safety officer monitor the whales' behaviour throughout each encounter and adapt in real time, prioritising guests' safety at every stage. Routes are adjusted to the weather and sea conditions, and the crew briefs the group before every entry into the water. The result is a measured, respectful way to meet the whales — never at their expense, and never at yours.
