Introduction

A private journey, shaped around you

For two months each summer, the sun in Northern Norway does not set. Instead, it dips toward the horizon, paints the sky in gold and amber, and rises again. The fjords, the mountains and the water are bathed in a warm light that shifts and softens through the night. A midnight sun cruise is a way to experience this phenomenon from the water. We depart in the evening and cruise through the fjords as the light transforms. There is no rush — the light lasts for hours, and the silence of the fjords at midnight, under golden skies, is something you remember. Your group is private. The pace is relaxed. Your captain knows the most beautiful routes and the quietest bays. You can swim in the clear water, enjoy a meal on board, photograph the landscape, or simply sit and watch the light.

What You Can Expect

An authentic day on the water

Weather, wildlife and local conditions may change the final plan.

Evening departure

We meet at the harbour and depart in the early evening. The sun is still high, and the light is already warm.

Cruising the fjords

We navigate through the islands and fjords, enjoying the scenery as the light begins its slow, golden descent.

Midnight sun

Around midnight, the sun reaches its lowest point. The light is at its most beautiful — soft, golden and endless. We anchor or cruise slowly to make the most of it.

Optional swimming

In summer, the water is refreshing and inviting. We can stop for a swim in a sheltered bay if your group wishes.

Return to harbour

We return in the early morning hours, or at a time that suits your group.

Wildlife & Nature

The natural environment

In summer, the fjords come alive. The water is clear and inviting, the shores are green, and seabirds are active. The midnight sun creates long, golden evenings that are perfect for photography. Marine life is more active in summer — you may see harbour porpoises, seals and a variety of seabirds. The landscape itself is the draw. Snow patches linger on the highest peaks even in summer, creating a striking contrast with the green shores and golden water below.

It's rare for me to be this blown away by an experience. The speed and level of service of Northern-Yachting is unlike anything I've done before.

My experience went beyond what I could have dreamt up. The boat, the skiing, the service, the views, the food - all of it was a 10 out of a 10. I didn´t want to leave!

Clothing

Even in summer, it can be cool on the water, especially in the evening. Bring a warm layer, a windproof jacket and comfortable clothes.

Swimming

Summer water temperatures range from 8°C to 14°C. It is refreshing but cold. Bring swimwear if you wish to swim.

Photography

The midnight sun offers some of the best light for photography in the world. Bring a camera — the golden light lasts for hours.

Sleep

If you are not used to 24-hour daylight, consider bringing an eye mask. The light does not fade, and some people find it affects their sleep.

Timing

The midnight sun is visible from approximately late May to mid-July. Outside this window, the sun does set, though summer nights are still very light.

Weather

Summer weather is generally mild, but conditions can still change. We may adjust the route based on wind and sea state.
